Java Monkey Speaks features Michael Harriot

Michael Harriot is a writer, poet and host of the popular podcast “The Black One.”

Michael Harriot is a veteran journalist with publications such as The Washington Post, Newsweek and Politico. His witty and insightful writing has made him one of the internet’s most read black writers, appearing on sites from Deadspin and Ebony to Very Smart Brothas. His digital magazine NegusWhoRead is a source for unapologetic commentary. Earlier this year, Michael became the full-time feature writer at The Root.

As a poet, Michael travels the country sharing unique brand of spoken word with audiences for more than 10 years. Aside from “The Black One” podcast, he also co-hosts the Game of Thrones review show “Dem Thrones.” 

Michael Harriot earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication at Auburn University and went on to earn a Master’s in International Business from Florida State University.
